Lolla add

When the official Lollapalooza 2006 initial line-up was released a Chicago radio station had the list posted along with two additions, Built to Spill & the Strokes. Those two band names were taken off the list within 12 hours of being posted. Now after checking out the Lolla official acts list, Built to Spill our now on the list. I can only expect that sometime in the coming weeks that The Strokes our added in a manner to maximize publicity. I'm thinking when one day tickets go on-sale.

Stills news

Today MTV has a piece on the return of The Stills.

the Rapture return

Rolling Stone has a little piece today on The Rapture. Currently working with Danger Mouse which excites me alot.

oh Pitchfork, you crazy bastard

Today the Pitchfork Music Festival re-launched there site along with announcing that The Futureheads & Art Brut will be joining the fray at the end of July in Chicago. 20 more bands to be announced. Me thinks at least two more indie heavy weights with the rest being more dance/hip-hop leaning. Anyone reading this, if you are a fan of indie music you need to go to Chicago this summer.

the Island ran away

As I feared it now appears that Islands will not be joining Metric next week in Edmonton. It looks like The Elected will be filling in for them while Panurge will still be performing. Although Islands record does not come out until next week it has been all over the internet for months. It is one of my favorite records of the year. Crazy good. Would of been nice to catch them live. Crossing my fingers that they will be added to Pitchfork fest. Promotional stuff for the album is my guess for jumping off of the Metric tour. Sad. My excitement level for both of next weeks show is really not there although I can see the Metric show being fun, TOC just feels like a burden to me. Why am I complaining? It'll be sweet to see live music again and soak in the tunes.

Taste of Chaos

One week till TOC. Mixed feelings on this one.

Oilers vs Flames

I received a ticket yesterday to go to the Oilers game this Saturday. Borderline nose bleeds in my opinion. Still, it should be a blast. I'm not a hockey guy but, when the hated Flames come into the City of Champions one cannot help but feel apart of the madness. Tight race in the West for playoff spots and specificaly in the Northwest. To top all this goodness up, the game is the second in the Hockey Night In Canada broadcast. I'm kinda amped for this thing. It adds to the April crazyness. Any knowledge of what is going on in the NHL can be attributed to 630 CHED who wakes me up most mornings and in the brief minutes it's on fills me with Oiler info. Thank You CHED.

thank you

You know what rules?
When you sit down the nite before a big paper is due, a paper you have spent almost no time researching, hell I barely have a topic, and discover that the class has been given a 10 day extension. Fuck Yeah!!!

April

4 Finals, 1 Term Paper, 6 Concerts, 2 Shifts
Mix 'em altogether and you get one fucking nutso month. There will be ups (Franz/Death Cab) and there will be downs (a little thing called finals) but through it all I will try and make The Worst Part my forum for the madness.

On an April related note, yesterday we plastered around 50 adds around the Augustana campus in hopes of selling my two extra tickets to Taste of Chaos. It's the most I've seen of the campus in the almost two years of going there. Sad but true. Now I wait in hopes that someone out there will snatch up these tix.

George Mason?

where did these dudes come from? a #11, is that allowed?

"Mayham"

New Sopranos tonite. From the little blurb on HBO's site Tony's recent injury doesn't seem to be a highlite of tonites ep. interesting.

Pitchfork Music Fest. Additions

Today the folks over at Pitchfork let it slip that Destroyer, Band of Horses, and Devendra Banhart Band will be playing there indie-rific fest. They will join the likes of the National, Jens Lekman, Silver Jews, Yo La Tengo, Tapes 'n Tapes, and a few other indiecentric bands with 23 more artists yet to be announced. I hope after attending this fest I will have enough indie cred to last the rest of the year. I wonder how many groups will partake in both Lollapalooza & Pitchfork? Chicago is where it's at this summer. Not only will they play host to Pitchfork & Lollapalooza but Intonation Fest will be going down in June. Bloc Party, The Stills, and The Streets lead the way at this Vice curated fest.

oh Barry...who do you think your kidding?

Today "Game of Shadows" hit book shelves everywhere. In this expose we find out about Barry Bonds and a host of other MLB, NFL, and track atheletes illegal drug use. Today Mr. Bonds is suing everyone involved in the book. Bonds is now the most tainted athlete of the modern age and deserves his name scratched from the record books. Unbelievable.

Ticket Info re:The Strokes

On Wednesday pre-sale starts for The Strokes concert that will be taking place May 15 in Edmonton at Shaw Conference Center. At 10am, follow this link username: thestrokes password: tickets All this info comes courtsey of there email list. They warn that through the ticketing link only pairs of tix are available and that there will be a short supply. Sonic 103's Glee Mail today hinted strongly of a Sonic sponsered pre-sale that will most likely take place Wednesday too and most likely last until Thursday with the general ticket sale likely Saturday. Only time will tell. From past experience with the company running the ticketing link those tix will be snatched up as soon as the link goes life. My hunch is scalpers. Sonic's pre-sale is the safest bet. more info as it becomes available

as luck would have it, i tuned into sonic this morning at 7:23am to hear the 'official' announcement. ticketmaster page now up here. $37.50 before service charges? that's only $2 cheaper than the death cab/franz show. don't get me wrong, i'm going to the show. saying that i think that they are charging too much. unless they bring along someone sweet (yeah yeah yeahs, some 'it' brit band, or someone pitchfork worthy) deep down i'm gonna be a bit bummed. i'm really curious to see how this thing sells. sonic password should be in inbox's everywhere sometime today.

solid ep. tony still out of it, looking kinda bleek. gotta say he's gonna pull through, shotting him's one thing, but to kill him, that's not gonna happen. is it?

Chicago + Strokes?

reading through More Cowbell a chicago station Q101 has The Strokes on the Lollapalooza lineup. hurray

Q101 dropped the strokes from there lollapalooza lineup. this leaves one to wonder if they let the cat out of the bag too early or if it was merely an accident? time will tell. my gut wants to say that over the next couple weeks lolla will unveil some high name acts to keep buzz going. even without the strokes the lineup is still solid.

Lollapalooza 2006

Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West, Wilco, Death Cab for Cutie, The Raconteurs, The Flaming Lips, The Shins, Ryan Adams, Broken Social Scene, The New Pornographers, Iron & Wine, The Secret Machines, Eels, Gnarls Barkley, Stars, Cursive, Editors, Calexico, Feist, The Hold Steady, Sparta, Of Montreal, along with around 50 other acts were confirmed this morning to be playing this years Lollapalooza. Taking place August 4-6 in Chicago, Lollapalooza is returning in it's new stand alone form. More acts will be announced in the coming weeks bringing the total up to 130 spread across 8 stages. This thing is gonna be massive. I'm not sure how I feel it compares to the other big fests taking place throughout the summer. All the groups I have listed I am interested in seeing. I hope as more groups come on board that the strokes, tv on the radio, or yeah yeah yeahs will be joining the fray. Tickets are $130USD with service charges. More to come...

Ready For It

A few years back a co-worker told me about a group from Montreal that went by the name The Stills. I got a copy of there debut lp Logic Will Break Your Heart and promptly fell in love with it. A great record I have constantly gone back to. I've patiently waited for a follow-up and now on May 9th my wait will end with the release of Without Feathers. The group has undergone some changes and will be touring North America in support of the new disc. They will be stopping in Edmonton on April 29th @ The Powerplant. I ordered tickets yesterday. You can get your here. Back in 2003 I saw the guys open for Broken Social Scene @ The Dinwoodie. Nice show. You can check out the opening song @ myspace. I don't know what to expect the direction the band is going to take with the new songs.

2006 Warped Tour

Now moving on from the hipster world to the emo/punk/scremo/hardcore world. Presale for the 2006 Warped Tour starts today. The tour will make it's usual Alberta stop in Calgary on Thursday July 20th @ Race City Speedway. AFI will be playing the Calgary stop. For more dates go to the website. You'll find what you need to know there. I've gone the last two years and had a blast both times.

Strokes 2006 Canadian Tour

The Strokes finally unveiled dates for there jaunt through the great white north this May. Looking forward to seeing one of the groups that really jump started my interest in music & all that relates to it. Along with Radiohead, they tore me away from the horrible music I was into at the time and led me down a path of goodness. Enough gushing. Here's the dates

May 6 Toronto
May 7 Montreal
May 9 Ottawa
May 10 London
May 12 Winnipeg
May 14 Calgary Stampede Corral
May 15 Edmonton Shaw Conference Center
May 17 Vancouver Plaza of Nations

Today begins the Toronto pre-sale, with the general going Saturday. I've yet to find out when all the other dates go on-sale, when I do I will post 'em. Looking at the Toronto price, I'm a bit worried about that department. Hopefully, they are less than Death Cab/Franz tix.

way out

since tomorrow i'm gonna try and run, do tons of homework, and enjoy the return of the sopranos & the debut of big love, i thought that i would throw a post up for all of you to enjoy. this coming week lollapalooza tickets go on sale along with the announcement of the 130+ strong line-up. i eagerly await as i plan on picking myself up a ticket. pitchfork's festival is the weekend before lollapalooza so i firgured why not treat myself to a trip to the windy city to enjoy two straight weekends of unbelievable music and maybe a cubs game to boot. the planning is underway and i am really amped for this journey. it'll be nice to attend these world class events while in my hometown the country folks converge for big valley.
on another travel take, i can reveal that i have been accepted to attend the augustan in cuba program. i'll have alot more to say about this in the coming months. for now all i can say is that i am greatful for the chance to take part in what will surely be a life changing experience.
finally i must say that i am really enjoying the new yeah yeah yeahs, jenny lewis, & islands records. i just got the new unmastered tv on the radio leak and have only been able to digest a couple tracks but what i hear i like. cheers
